That clothing can have a big impact on your age is nothing new. Wearing the wrong colors of clothing, unflattering fits or the wrong sizes can make you look older. But we were surprised to learn that you can even make the wrong choice in socks.
The wrong socks
Apparently ankle socks are really out. Gen Z, people born between 2000 and 2015, have decided that only 'old' people – which these young dears define as over 30 – still wear these low-cut socks. According to the younger generation, high sports socks are the norm, regardless of your outfit. Whether you are wearing long trousers and your socks are largely hidden, or a dress in the summer, hidden ankle socks are passé and have made way for long sports socks that can be seen.
Surprise
The statement is causing quite a bit of surprise among the older generations. Whereas most of us grew up with the idea that it is ugly to wear your socks visibly, it is now suddenly a no-go to hide them. If you want to appear youthful and hip, high white sports socks are a must. Go for a sports brand like Nike or Adidas, where the logo is clearly visible when you wear them. That is a sure-fire hit!
Naturally we are happy to take this advice to heart – with a wink and a nod. But how do you wear such a sporty pair? Simple, because they can be combined with every type of shoe you can think of. From a cool sneaker to smart loafers, a pair of sports socks completes the look.
At a certain age you don't want to be mistaken for a high school student anymore, but still! With a pair of sporty knee socks you are suddenly a lot hipper in the eyes of the youth! It's a matter of taste, shall we say...
