When you spray on your perfume, you naturally want to smell wonderful all day long. Unfortunately, the scent often evaporates quickly, but not if you spray it in these places. We have a number of tips for you.
Pulse points
We all sometimes fall victim to the mist-and-walk-through strategy. You want to avoid this if you want to enjoy your perfume for as long as possible. So make sure you spray the perfume on your so-called pulse points. Pulse points are the warmest parts of your body and warmth ensures the drying process and helps the scent to be released.
“Perfumes – whether they contain alcohol, oil, etc. – work by evaporation, so the warmth of your body at the typical pulse points is always a safe place to wear them,” Michael Nordstrand, owner and perfumer of Mythologist Studio, tells Glamour Magazine.
The wrists and neck are the favorite spots for most people, but there are also many other lesser-known pulse points on your body that maximize the intensity and longevity of the perfume. “Try spraying behind the ears, on the neck and on the wrists. Try not to rub your wrists together after applying, especially if you want your scent to linger; this disrupts the top notes of the perfume and can cause them to fade faster, says Michael.
More intimate places
In addition to these pulse points, you can also go for some more 'intimate' places. “I like to spray perfume on the parts of my body where there is most interaction between people,” says Emma Vernon, presenter of the podcast Perfume Room. She sprays on her wrists, forearms and elbows, as well as her chest and the front and back of her neck - ‘great for a hugging encounter,’ she says.
“I have a customer who often wears dresses and she swears by applying a little extra behind the knees or at the hem of the skirt; it creates a lovely scent when she walks,” adds Michael.
Clothing
Do you have sensitive skin? Then you can also spray the scent in your hair and on your clothes. “Fabrics retain scent better and have the advantage of not being as warm as the human body, so that is always the best way to get more out of a scent,” says Michael. So in the middle of summer you mainly want to spray on your clothes.
Our tip? Apply your perfume after drying yourself off after a shower, when your skin is still damp and provides a good base for your scent.
